Tranquility through Trials

I asked my Lord to be closer to You
a weary soul lost and confused
afflictions and distress continue to plague me
I hold tight the Qur'an hoping to fill the void.

I asked for Paradise a relief from all pain
my feet are exhausted from walking through the rain
despaired so I complained for the trials that You sent
while these tribulations were meant to do just that.

Grand tokens of gifts wrapped in a tattered veil
camouflaged in heartbreak shrouded with trouble
bountiful were Your plans though I'm ever hasty
from the depth of darkness, through You I found me.
