Barricading Bliss

I sit alone and wonder.
Will I see them again, ever?
Their idle presence defined my past existence.
When they left without a trace,
the finality was a disgrace.

I lie awake and wonder.
Am I making another blunder?
Goading others to take their spot,
with likely the same upshot.
I can plot this time, to be the one leaving without a sign.

Not tearing myself asunder,
I know I can only wonder.
Letting ghosts of past ambush the future.
Barricade instead bliss if present,
and savor the joy of this moment.
