We bring up children
asking them to look
within themselves
and find whatever
they wish to be

You can do anything
you desire, we tell them
or become anything
you wish
in future.

When they actually
do look inside
most find nothing.
Other than idle desires
to please themselves

It never occurs to them
that we were just lying
trying
to please them
with ill-founded wisdom
