Heartless, Mindless

The watchful eye of
my heartless mind
was no match for the wiles
of my mindless heart.

The heart is scarred by abuse
from those who were close.
Without a mind of its own,
it just could not learn.

Adept at cleaning up the mess
with rationalizing finesse,
the mind got sharper.
What is it they said about Alzheimer?
