Inside Out

I look so happy on the outside
that no one knows
what’s happening inside.
The heart has already checked out
leaving the body alone
to go through the motions of living
It is animated by lingering obligations.
I don’t want to go just yet
but I am sure I wouldn’t want to come back.
Who knows what’s on the other side?
