Lying to my heart

Should I avoid the innumerable news
the suffering of my people around me
and join the deafening silence of the world?
Lie to my heart saying:
"I'm saving you from numbness
from being desensitised"
Or do I continue to just be
and let my shameful incompetence consume me?
My very essence is all spent
overwhelmed, repressed, disconcert
as I spectate Goliath walking free.
