Mothers’ day

Mothers’ day

Oh! Mother
You carried me inside you
Endured the pain
Discomfort and worry
And now I only remember you once a year

Buying you chocolates
Or sending a card from afar
Surely you mean much more?

You shed many tears
Had many fears
As I went through childhood
Made many sacrifices
All for my sake

You never complained
And saw me as a blessing
Instead of a burden
Never thought of splitting your tendons
Even when I let you down

As I grew older
I listened to you less
And society and popular culture
Became my surrogate mother
Leading me down another path

I stayed out late
We always argued and debated
And I told you that it’s my life
To live as I wish
I quoted my favourite rapper
And said “no one can judge me but God “

Although I was more of a sinner
Than a believer

I avoided going to the masjid
Hanged around with mates instead
Getting into trouble
Smoking drugs and getting drunk

Police would bring me home
And you would deal with them
Taking responsibility
And enduring the gossips
You must have been ashamed
But never showed it on your face

You were there when I failed my exams
And held my hand
Told me that it’s not the end of the world
And being a good Muslim
Is far more important
Than any qualifications

Eventually I turned back to Allah
And gave jahaliyah the boot
But it was too late
You were ill
And close to death

You still remained positive
And with your struggling breath
Said, “better late than never “

So mother I want you to know
That I appreciate you every day
And not just mothers day
I’ll be here for you
Until you depart from this life

And for the Muslims
Every day should be mother day
Not just March 22nd

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.

And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: "My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small."

"Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam )said that Jibreel AS. Said that" Woe unto him in whose presence his parents or either one of them attains old age, and (through failure to serve them) he is not allowed to enter 'Jannah". To this Rasulullah(Sallallahu Alayhe wassallam) said Ameen!
