Ramadhan reflections




The month of mercy came

The days went in a haze

I hardly noticed

Oh what a shame





Hardly read any Quran

Just about managed sehri

Olympics has started

So I watched lots of telly





Missed the terrawih

Couldn’t even manage the eight

Too busy thinking about what I’m going to eat

To keep me going the rest of the day





Found it hard to lower my gaze

And avoid the opposite sex

So we broke our fasts together prematurely

Engaging in all manner of impropriety





Eid shopping keeps me going

What to wear and what car to hire

What girls to pick up

And take to the party





Ramadhan is fading

And I’m waiting

For it to disappear

For another year






It’s hard sinning

And betraying Allah

And going with the flow without thinking

But it’s just the way it is

In this society

11 months Kufr

And 1 month of Islam partially

To wipe the slate clean





But when will we make a new beginning

And follow the Islamic teachings?

Instead of following blindly

The temptations of the society





This the questions most try avoiding

As they engage in things which keep them busy

Ignoring reality and following a fantasy

Leading them to destruction and misery
