Shut down that laptop
Switch off the lights
The day goes through my mind
Like an old soapie rerun…

Before dawn
I read Fajr in a sleepy haze
Scrambling up for the big chase
Had to beat the clock
Make it to school and work on time
For being late will surely be a crime!

They say tomorrow is another day

Who said it will always be that way?

I squeezed in the zuhr prayer
In an empty boardroom
Between meetings
Hurriedly breathing out my supplication
Before the crowd wondered in

So many deadlines to meet
I am actually dizzy
I am so tired
I feel beat
Rush back home for there’s still Asr to read

Shift into second gear
Homework and pyjama drill
Sat down for Magrib
My mind is at a standstill

The house quietens down
Everyone’s gone to sleep
Tomorrow’s deadline calls
My laptop beckons me

I stand before my Lord for the first time today in peace
Reading Esha with unusual ease
But what have I to say?
Have I done anything to ease the burden of my fellow muslimeen?
What have I done to spread my deen?
Perhaps tomorrow will be another day?
Forgive me my Lord
I pray
Show me a better way!
But
Thank you, My Lord for making me capable of being busy all day!
