Why don’t we cry?

When the one we loved so passionately rejected us
We cried very bitterly

But
Why don’t we cry at the thought that our Creator might reject us on Judgement Day?
When we fell down and skinned our knees
We bawled inconsolably
But
Why don’t we bawl at the thought of being punished in the Hereafter for our sins so severely?
When we stood on that stage on graduation day
Our eyes swelled with tears of pride
But
When we realise how lucky we are to be Muslim
Why don’t the tears flow freely?
When our homes are lit up by the arrival of a newborn our eyes overflow with joy
But
When we receive glad tidings in the Quraan for those who believe, persevere, restrain, abstain
Why don’t our eyes well up with gratitude?
When death knocks on the door and takes a beloved soul
We weep with the loss and pain
But
Why don’t we weep at witnessing our loved ones sinning
And heading towards the Hell-fires for a bad attitude?
We know our time in the world is measured
Every moment should with ibadaat be treasured
Ya Ra’ufu,
The One who turns hearts
Turn us towards You
Please let our tears flow
And
Soften our hearts
So that our imaan can grow
And
Our faces on the Day of Judgement glow!
