Wrongly Accused

Wrongly Accused

A sad thing happened to me today
Early in the morning of a Friday
A close one chose to accuse
Of things I was very much confused

It was a simple matter
But it escalated to something greater
All I did was to send a message
But she misunderstood and took the wrong passage

I was accused of wrongful doing
This was what she was saying
All that she gathered from the simple text
She accused me of misrepresentation of fact

How do I prove my innocence?
To her all my excuses were nonsense
Since her heart is sore
All my pleas were ignored

Only time will tell
Soon all will be well
In Allah Almighty I put my trust
Please make her realize I was crushed

The truth will prevail
But will it be too late to unveil
As the damage has been done
Our relationship sank, like the setting of the Sun

I wonder how many innocents have been accused
Of wrong doings they too are much confused
A pity state and a sad flight
As many were put to jail and murdered without a fight

Or even if their innocence were proven
The accusers acted too often too brazen
The damage done is beyond repair
To issue a simple apology is just unfair

Islam teaches us to forgive and forget*
But an act we soon regret
If we were to extract vengeance**
To our accuser we inflict the same grievance, giving the same sentence

Since we are only human – how much can we take?
When our patience and dignity are at stake
But for Allah Almighty’s sake
All difficulty and ill treatments, we partake

As in my case – my innocence was proven
But my confidence was shaken
To Allah Almighty I pray please keep me strong
As she did apologize and admitted she was wrong

*In the Qur’an Allah has described the Believers as “those who avoid major sins and acts of indecencies and when they are angry they forgive.” (al-Shura 42:37) Later in the same Surah Allah says, “The reward of the evil is the evil thereof, but whosoever forgives and makes amends, his reward is upon Allah.” (al-Shura 42:40) In another place the Qur’an says, “If you punish, then punish with the like of that wherewith you were afflicted. But if you endure patiently, indeed it is better for the patient. Endure you patiently. Your patience is not except through the help of Allah (al-Nahl 16:126-127)

**Narrated Wa'il ibn Hujr: I was with the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) when a man who was a murderer and had a strap round his neck was brought to him.
He then called the legal guardian of the victim and asked him: Do you forgive him?
He said: No. He asked: Will you accept the blood-money? He said: No. He asked: Will you kill him? He said: Yes. He said: Take him. When he turned his back, he said: Do you forgive him? He said: No. He said: Will you accept the blood-money? He said: No. He said: Will you kill him? He said: Yes. He said: Take him. After repeating all this a fourth time, he said: If you forgive him, he will bear the burden of his own sin and the sin of the victim. He then forgave him. He (the narrator) said: I saw him pulling the strap.
