Zama Malgeray, Zama Rorr (My Friend, My Brother)

Life can be cruel,
Often leaves me in the dark.
Life and I, a biased duel,
Superfluous steps; Life is stark.
Inept, my diminished Imaan,
Apathy plays a serenade for me,
Imran, 'Prosperity', yet no open door.
But I swear to the whole Insan,
My eyes were inclined to your beauty,
I can still feel the warmth of your Noor.

Such an enigma you are,
With such respect, you speak my words.
You remind me of the sands from afar,
An evening's melody, a morning's bird.
The people, young to old,
Are adored by your smile,
And held beloved by your Salaam.
Your embrace gives warmth to the cold,
Your manners, consistent like the Nile.
Oh, how I am honoured by your Salaam.

Life once caused me a detour,
Taken my time from Allah.
Portrayed the Sunnah as a bore,
Gave me sin in place of Salah.
But you exemplified my conscience,
As I saw the epitome of a Muslim,
Follow the footsteps of our Nabi.
Soon, Life was no longer a nuisance,
You helped it cater my needs as a Muslim.
Your deeds may be silent, but not to as-Samî.

The times when I began to drift,
Your presence stood as a beacon;
The catalyst for my soul to lift,
Defied Time with every season.
Even the times I fell ill,
Home became my abode confined,
Still, you would establish your nova.
My home, you would come to fill,
With Barakah and Dua; a quote comes to mind,
'For you, a thousand times over'.

Life has not been kind to you,
If anything, more painful than mine.
For here, there is nothing you can do,
For loved ones there; your tears shine.
Horror, incapable of thought,
Has seized you in its visions,
Of blood-stained sands and streets.
And yet, this you have fought,
Maintained a smile, in addition
To the sacrifice for the people you meet.

'Not all men are equal for some are great,
Some middling and some inferior'.
If many more mirrored you, I speculate,
A brotherhood, with no superior.
My Imaan, strengthened by you;
I have found a new love for Life,
As vast as the seas beyond the shore.
I pray our friendship remains true,
For you, I would persist through any strife!
