A reason to smile

If you could see her,
you'd see her smile
But never her tears.
And if you listen,
you'd hear her soft laughter,
yet never her cry.
And when asked,
She's fine, praise Allah, everything is beautiful.
What reason would she ever cry,
when all you would ever see is her smile?
How would you know,
that the night sky recognises her cry,
and that beneath her shy smile are
her fears and insecurities attempting to escape into words
but only managing to peek out through her eyes;
a broken heart that soothes the sorrow and frustration;
layers of disappointment bound around past expectations long discarded;
regrets surge over her like waves and seek to drown her,
yet if you saw her, she's still standing, still smiling.
And the anger and sadness,
grief and guilt,
the worries and rejection,
the hopelessness that creeps in and tries to crush her Iman like a landslide does to the trees,
is utterly overwhelmed and defeated by what inspires her to appear utterly joyful in spite of her pain,
pain which ceases to exist when she remembers,
her hope and trust in Allah,
Ar-Rahman,
Al-Wadud.
Her reason to smile.
