A slave's journey; from darkness into light

Night approached and stars glittered in the sky,
The heat of the day had thankfully passed by,
Sighs of relief, were heard from all the Arab lot,
For the day had truly been unbearably hot.
Like hell had been let loose, reminding mankind,
Of the terror and the torture that it has in mind,
For the ignorant worshippers of idols of stone,
Because only Allah is to be worshipped, only Allah alone.
In the house of Bani Jomah, highest and noblest of the tribes,
A master named Ummaya Ibn Khalaf, his family and his wives,
All slept in deep slumber, oblivious and unaware,
When their slave, Bilaal, heard a whisper in the air,
Bilaal...Bilaal, the slave tried to ignore,
Turned over and sleep had embraced him once more,
'Bilaal...Bilaal!' the slave awoke with a fright,
Scared of this unusualness in the dead of the night.
Thoughts scattered and confused, he went to the door,
'Who is it?' he call out, wanting to learn more,
'Abu Bakr' replies the voice,'A prophesy has been fulfilled'
'Mohammed is a prophet, a better nation he will build.
Amazed Bilaal asks, 'what good tidings does he bring?'
'That Allah is to be worshipped, The creator the king'
The Almighty, the All-knowing, every inner thought he sees,
The Punisher and Rewarder of all good and bad deeds.
O Bilaal!this is the truth, the religion of equality and justice,
Believe it in your heart, don't hesitate to accept this,
Bilaal bowed his head and became silent for a while,
Then looked and Abu Bakr and said with a smile.
"I bear witness that there is no God but Allah -SWT- and
That Mohammed is the prophet of Allah-SWT"
Thus, Bilaal became a believer, in that blessed hour,
But the defenceless slave, with no authority or power,
Did not yet know of the painful punishments to come,
He would be persecuted and tortured in front of everyone.
But the Abyssinian slave, had a heart full of faith,
For the first time in his life, his soul felt awake,
So no amount of pain could ever drive this away,
He had been blessed with the truth, and with the truth he will stay.
Dragged through the streets with a rope all day,
Mocked and abused, but his belief did not fray,
Lying on hot desert sand, with a boulder on his chest,
His Imaan did not give up, his Imaan did not rest.
Heat piercing through his skin and scolding his back,
The boulder crushing down his chest, and a mocking master on top of that,
Thirsty and dizzy under the heat of the sun,
Blessed Bilaal repeats 'Ahaad Ahaad..Alaah is one!'
Subhanallah! such courage and reliance was portrayed,
And Allah soon turned the tables for the slave,
From a powerless Abyssinian, to an honoured and respected man,
Loved by the prophet and best Mu'azzin of the land.
His name recorded in history on proud pages that shine,
Hadrat Bilaal Ibn Rabah will be remembered for all of time.
