Checking Out
As I keep pushing the cart of my life
through the winding streets of this world
I start to sense loneliness
gnawing at the heels of freedom I’ve adored.
As the checkout counter looms ahead
I see my cart fill up with pesky needs
sapping the pride of independence
when the wallet is empty without good deeds.
