Bismillah Ir-Rahman Ir-Rahim. And seek help through patience and prayer and indeed it is difficult except for the humbly submissive[to ALLAH]Quran ~2:45~ Humble people are beautiful people, the good people always enjoy being in their company and love being around them, because subhanallah! no matter how much they have! or how wealthy they are there's always that human connection with them that you never lost. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) gave the Best of examples in every aspect of his life,in His humility,In His integrity,in His Truthfulness,in his Sincerity,in His Righteousness,in His Unselfishness,in His Patience,in His Forgiveness,in His Purity and cleanliness,in His Honesty,in His Goodness and Kindness to others,In His Consideration and respect for others,in His Courage,In His Moderation,In His Cheerfulness.People would come and the first questions, they would look around and they say is who is Muhammad? which one of you is Muhammad? they would ask! And the people would point him out sitting among them, and say here is Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)!. {Humility} It is the complete sense of humbleness that overcomes one who is totally submitted to the will of ALLAH, the Almighty. Worship is submission to ALLAH, the essential part of submission is humility.True piety or righteousness is not achievable without cultivating a sense of humility.
Humility comes from knowing about ALLAH and recognising His greatness, venerating Him, loving Him and being in awe of Him; and it comes from knowing about oneself and one’s own faults, and weaknesses. ALLAH gives this characteristic to those who struggle to become close to Him through deeds of piety and righteousness. A Sahabah close to MuhammadRasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) heard him say,
“Wealth does not decrease because of charity, and ALLAH increases His slave in honour when he forgives others. And no one humbles himself before ALLAH but ALLAH will raise him (in status).” (Saheeh Muslim )
Humility is one of the greatest blessings ALLAH can bestow on a human being. It allows one to achieve genuine submission. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was truly submitted to ALLAH; his character was one of complete humility and based on sincere trust in ALLAH. He was a model of kindness and humbleness. In fact, the characteristics displayed by Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) were the exact opposite of pride and arrogance. Every aspect of his life reflected humbleness, even his walking, talking, sitting or eating.
“So glorify the praises of your Rabb (Lord) and be of those who prostrate themselves (to Him).” (Quran 15:98).Humility /Sublimity: Characterized by nobility,People who are not easily angered, people who are not easily provoked, under pressure they remain to be the kind people that they are!And Rasulallah(sallallahu alayahi wa salam) was like this!the more foolish you act around him, the more gentle he becomes.he would smile under many stressful situation ,he would put a big smile on his face! when we met somebody with a cheerful face that is apart of charity(saqah),Iman(Faith is not just something that put the Heart in peace,But it help to guide our facial expression, the more in peace you are, it will show in your demeanor and you will not have any difficulty just putting a smile on your face.{True piety or righteousness is not achievable without cultivating a sense of humility.}Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)said truly nobility is about being ALLAH conscious,! because at that piont it is not people who will deem you Noble. But rather it is ALLAH,that the noble of you in the estimation of ALLAH,are those who are most ALLAH conscious,{Verily the most the noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).
}So if you are looking for nobility find it in your relationship with ALLAH.Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)Would say OALLAH make us beautiful by always keeping us in the state of wellbings!(that is being heathy)and truly beauty is about being heathy! Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)said O ALLAH keep us always in a state of wellbeing for that is where our beauty comes from! O Allah! Enrich us with knowledge, adorn us with patience, honour us with piety, and beautify us with health. Oh Allah! Enrich us with Knowledge) (Oh Allah! Adorn us with a sense of humility and Gentlenss) (Oh Allah! ennoble us with taqwa and Piety) (Oh Allah! Beautify us by keeping us in a state of well being and Good Healthy). (1)Oh Allah! Enrich us with Knowledge) The very first verse of the Qur'an revealed to Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) on the night of 27th of Ramadan in 610 CE reads:
Read: In the name of thy Lord who created man from a clot Read: And thy Lord is the Most Generous
Who taught by the pen, taught man that which he knew not…. Surah AL ALAQ, 96: 1-5
[the pursuit of knowledge are central to Islam. The aim of education in Islam is to 'produce good Muslims with an understanding of Islamic rules of behaviour and a strong knowledge of and commitment to the faith' Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Whoever takes a path by which he seeks (religious) knowledge, Allaah will facilitate for him by its virtue a path to Paradise.” [Muslim] Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) also said: “A believer never has enough of the good he attains (i.e. the religious knowledge) until Paradise is his abode (by the virtue of such knowledge).” [At-Tirmithi] Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Allaah, His Angels and the dwellers of the heavens and the earth, even the ant in its hole and the whales in the sea ask for forgiveness for the one who teaches people beneficial knowledge. Knowledge is one of the most important requirements in the life of the Muslim . It is through knowledge that the creed becomes sound, And the Muslim performs his acts of worship properly and the person becomes enlightened regarding the matters of Islam and worldly life. This is why it is important to pay attention to the pursuit of knowledge and inculcate the love of learning in the Muslim Life, so that every member of the world would aspire to acquire knowledge in whichever field that may interests them and which would prove most beneficial to others. And they shall say had we but listened or used reason
We would not be among the inmates of the burning fire.
Surah AL MULK, 61: 10
Are those who have knowledge
And those who have no knowledge alike?
Only the men of understanding are mindful.
Surah AL ZUMAR, 39: 9
And the Qur'an exhorts the Muslims to do scientific research:
And whoso bringeth the truth and believeth therein such are the dutiful.
Surah Al ZUMAR, 39: 33
Every Muslim man's and every Muslim woman's prayer should be:
MY Rabb!(LORD)! ENRICH ME WITH KNOWLEDGE... Surah TA HA, 20: 114
The pursuit of knowledge and the use of reason, based on sense observation are made obligatory on every Muslim, man and woman.
The following traditions of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)- supplement the foregoing teachings of the Qur'an in the following way:
(1) Seek knowledge "even though it be In China."
(2) "The acquisition of knowledge is compulsory for every Muslim, whether male or female."(2)
(2) "The ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of the martyr.
(3) "Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave."
(4) "ALLAH has revealed to me 'Whoever walks in the pursuit of knowledge I facilitate for him the way to heaven.' Increase in knowledge is even superior to increase in worship."
(5) "The best form of worship is the pursuit of knowledge."
(6) "Scholars should endeavor to spread knowledge and provide education to people who have been deprived of it. For, where knowledge is hidden it disappears."
(7) Some one asked Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam): "Who is the biggest scholar?" He replied: "He who is constantly trying to learn from others, for a scholar is ever hungry for more knowledge."
(8) "Seek for knowledge and wisdom, for whatever the vessel from which it flows, you will never be the loser."
(9) "Thinking deep for one hour (with sincerity) is better than 70 years of (mechanical) worship."
(10) "Worship, without knowledge, has no goodness in it and knowledge without understanding has no goodness in it. And the recitation of the Qur'an, which is not thoughtful has no goodness in it."
(11) "To listen to the words of the learned and to instill unto others the lessons of science is better than religious exercises."
(12) "Acquire knowledge: it enables its possessor to distinguish right from the wrong, it lights the way to heaven; it is our friend in the desert, our society in solitude, our companion when friendless; it guides us to happiness; it sustains us in misery; it is an ornament among friends and an armor against enemies."
(2)O ALLAH! Adorn us with a sense of Humility)
ALLAH created human beings to worship Him and a practicing Muslim, in essence, should be able to worship ALLAH in every second, every hour and every day. Islam is a way of life and it means nothing more, or less, than total submission to one ALLAH.
“And I (ALLAH) created not the jinn and humans except they should worship Me Alone.” (Adh-Dhariyat, 51:56)
The concept of ALLAH in Islam describes Him as the most merciful and the most loving and whatever He prescribes for humankind is in their best interest. Total submission to the will of Almighty ALLAH is a pathway to purity, peace and ultimately Paradise.
The word the Quran most frequently uses to describe the act of worship is Ibadah. Ibadah is the root of the word ‘ubudiyyah, which means to express one’s humility or humbleness, and as with most Arabic words there are many shades of meaning. Ibadah involves more than an awareness of humility. It is the complete sense of humbleness that overcomes one who is totally submitted to the will of ALLAH. Worship is submission to ALLAH, the essential part of submission is humility.
“So glorify the praises of your Rabb (Lord) and be of those who prostrate themselves (to Him)” (Al-Hijr, 15:98)
Therefore, humility can guide one to Paradise, just as its opposite, arrogance, kibr in Arabic, can only lead one into Hell. It is Satan’s arrogance that caused his expulsion from Paradise; when he refused to humbly obey ALLAH’s command and prostrate before Adam, the father of mankind, he condemned himself and his followers to Hell. Satan’s lack of submission, or humility, resulted in one of the most pious of ALLAH’s creatures falling into the abyss.
“Except Iblis, he refused to be among the prostrators. ALLAH said: O Iblis! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators? ‘Iblis said: 'I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay....” (Al-Hijr, 15: 31-35)
No one who behaves arrogantly or who acts as if he or she has power over others is capable of true submission. All power and strength is from ALLAH alone. All human beings are equal in the sight of ALLAH and the distinctions between nations, tribes, and families are only to know each other and not for the sake of pride.
“O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you with ALLAH is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa (ALLAH-consciousness). Verily, ALLAH is All-Knowing, All-Aware.” (Al-Hujurat, 49:15)
The main pillar of worship is the prayer. The congregational prayer is performed in rows where all men stand before ALLAH as equals. There is no special place for the rich or powerful, the meek and poor are not relegated to the back lines. Each man bows his head in humility knowing that his brothers on either side of him are equally important in the sight of ALLAH. Only one thing raises one man or woman above another — piety. True piety or righteousness is not achievable without cultivating a sense of humility.
ALLAH says: “And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, ALLAH likes not each arrogant boaster.” (Luqman 31:18)
Humility comes from knowing about ALLAH and recognizing His greatness, venerating Him, loving Him and being in awe of Him; and it comes from knowing about oneself and one’s own faults, and weaknesses. ALLAH gives this characteristic to those who struggle to become close to Him through deeds of piety and righteousness. A companion close to Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) heard him saying: “Wealth does not decrease because of charity, and ALLAH increases His slave in honor when he forgives others. And no one humbles himself before ALLAH but ALLAH will raise him (in status).” (Muslim)
Humility is one of the greatest blessings ALLAH can bestow on a human being. It allows one to achieve genuine submission. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) was truly submitted to ALLAH; his character was one of complete humility and based on sincere trust in ALLAH. He was a model of kindness and humbleness. In fact, the characteristics displayed by Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) were the exact opposite of pride and arrogance. Every aspect of his life reflected humbleness, even his walking, talking, sitting or eating.
Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)did not behave towards others as if he was better than they were, nor did he spurn manual work. One of his companions reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) worked happily with servants or workers. Other companions related that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) tidied his house, tied camels, fed animals, ate meals with his servants, and helped them in kneading dough and bringing provisions from the market. It was also reported that he used to visit the sick, attend funerals, ride on a donkey, slow down his pace for the sake of the weak and accept invitations from the poor.
The companions and the early generations of Muslims understood the concept of humility. They behaved humbly towards ALLAH and mankind because of their love for ALLAH, and their fellow man, and fear of punishment in the Hereafter.
During his Caliphate, Umar Ibn Al-Khattab was marching upon Damascus with his army. Abu Ubaydah was with him and when they came upon a little lake, Umar descended from his camel, took off his shoes, tied them together, and hung them on his shoulder. He then took the halter off his camel and they entered the water together. Seeing this in front of the army, Abu Ubaydah said: “O Commander of the Believers! How can you be so humble in front of all your men?” Umar answered, “Woe to you, Abu Ubaydah! If only someone else other than you thought this way! Thoughts like this will cause the downfall of the Muslims. Don't you see we were indeed a very lowly people? ALLAH raised us to a position of honor and greatness through Islam. If we forget who we are and wish other than the Islam which elevated us, the one who raised us surely will debase us.”
The one who is truly humble is the one who is truly blessed. Every time he feels superior to others, he remembers ALLAH, the most great and omnipotent, and humbles himself in true submission.
“And the slaves of ALLAH are those who walk on the earth in humility and calmness, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness.” (Al-Furqan, 25:6)
1. We need to cleanse our hearts from enmity and arrogance and from looking down upon others. When negative feelings take hold of our hearts, they taint our hearts and keep us from experiencing humility. 2. We need to engage in deeper contemplation. We need to think deeply about what the Qur’ân tells us. We should also ponder Creation, and recognize the evidence therein about the greatness of the Creator. We should reflect deeply about our lives and the experiences that we have. Indeed, contemplating upon our lives endows our inner beings with a sense of awe before our Lord, and this helps us to attain humility. 3. We should strive to be truly sincere in our actions. We should be vigilant not to seek worldly praise or recognition for the things we should be doing to please Allah. Any tendency to show off to other people takes us further from humility.
4. We need to be honest. We should avoid lying, since dishonesty hardens the heart.
5. We need to avoid sin. Each time we sin, it is like a black spot upon our hearts. When these spots accumulate, the heart becomes hardened and corrupted.
6. We should give help to those who are in need, like the poor, the orphans, and the indigent. This will soften our hearts. Indeed, Allah may reward us by blessing us with humility and purity of spirit.
7. We need to beseech Allah in supplication, and seek refuge with Him from a heart that knows no humility, from eyes unable to cry, and from supplications that go unanswered.
I ask Allah to purify our hearts, and to bless us to experience the pleasure and peace of true humility before Him. (3)(Oh Allah! ennoble us with taqwa and Piety) Stations of Taqwa (ALLAH-consciousness)
We must increase our Humility and Taqwa by being grateful for all the favours, which Allah has bestowed upon us. To show our gratefulness to Allah, we must strive to continue our striving by doing all that which Allah has commanded and abstain from whatever that He forbids.
1. Being cautious of falling into disbelief. This is the station of submission to ALLAH.
2. Being cautious of falling into sin and evil. This is the station of repentance.
3. Being cautious of doubtful things. This is the station of carefulness .
4. Being cautious of the permissible. This is the station of indifference. Ibn al-Qayyim said, “There are some people who will observe the obligations and avoid the prohibited. However, Shaytan will busy them with the permissible acts until the fail to make use of their extra time.”
5. Being cautious of letting anything enter the heart save Allah. This is the station of witness.
Taqwa in Practice:
Once ‘Umar radi Allahu ‘anhu (may Allah be pleased with him) asked a companion, “describe for me taqwa.” The Sahabah responded, “If you were to walk through a thorny pathway with a flowing robe, how would you walk?” ‘Umar answered, “I would gather my garments, squeezing them tight, and walk carefully.” The companion responded, “That is taqwa.”
How to Gain Taqwa?
If you were born a Muslim, or accepted Islam, then you already possess taqwa. This is great news and should serve as a spring board to preserve and develop your existing relationship with Allah! There are some pretty clear ways to do this. However, knowledge and practice are two very different entities:
1. Make a sincere intention to improve your taqwa.
2. Ask Allah to increase your tawqa. It is authentically reported that Rasulullah(sallallahu alayhi wasallam) used to supplicate:
“Allahum Inni asalukal huda wa ttuqa wal ‘afaaf wal ghinaa.“
“Oh Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, virtue and sufficiency.”
3. To increase your worship. Allah says, “Worship Allah…you will obtain taqwa.”
4. Observe the sunnah whenever possible. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)said, “I am the most ALLAH fearing person.” Thus, following him is a guarantee, if one’s intention is right, that one is on the ways of taqwa. Imam Malik said, “The Sunnah is like the Ark of Noah. Whoever got on board was safe. Who didn’t, drowned.”
At the end of the day, these steps are like tools hanging in our garages. If we use them, we will build something. If we neglect them, making excuses, being lazy or having bad feelings about our Rabb (Lord), then we have none to blame but ourselves. Start by observing the obligatory acts, increase the number of sunnah, charity and civic engagement. All of those, if done for Allah alone, Taqwa is a quality whose virtues are astounding. Imam al-Faruzabadi mentioned 22 virtues of taqwa mentioned in the Qur’an! Look for them here in the future, ALLAH willing. Once we say “La Ilaha Illallah”, we should take a few steps to lodge Taqwa (piety, righteousness, humbleness, fear, ALLAH consciousness, etc.) in our hearts. Know as a believer that it’s Allah’s (our creator and sustainer’s) right to be obeyed: Let us never forget that it is Allah’s right to be obeyed. Ibn Qayyim said: “A benefit of understanding Allah’s right over the servant is that it opens the door of humbleness in front of Allah and closes the doors of conceit. It allows one to realize that salvation is only through Allah’s grace and mercy. It is Allah’s right that He should be obeyed and not disobeyed: that He should be remembered and not forgotten and that He should be appreciated and not unappreciated . . . Many people think about their rights over Allah and do not about His rights over them. This is how they are detached from Allah and deprived of the desire to meet Him. This is the epitome of ignorance of their Lord and of themselves” From time to time we should pause and assess the condition of our hearts. If we do that with full introspection, it wouldn’t be difficult to determine whether our hearts are filled with piety and fear of Allah (Taqwa), or have remnants of hardness and a carefree attitude about Allah and His teachings. Allah says in the Quran: “O you who believe! Fear Allah and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the morrow (tomorrow), and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what you do” (Surah Al-Hashr:18). Ibn kathir says that the phrase ‘let each soul see’ or “let every person look” in the above verse means to take an account of one’s own actions before being audited (by Allah) (Tafseer of Ibn Kathir: 4/346). Omar bin Khattab wrote to one of his employees: “Audit yourself in prosperity before the auditing of adversity. Whoever does this will be pleased and envied. Whoever is distracted from this by his life and fantasies, will face remorse and loss.”
Reflect your Taqwa in your deeds: Once you build the Taqwa in your heart (become cognizant of, and fear Allah in all your affairs), you should start practicing it in your actions. The sahaba and salaf used to exert themselves in ensuring that their actions reflected the Taqwa in their hearts. It’s said that Ibn Omar used to stay awake the whole night if he missed a prayer in congregation (because he knew (through the Taqwa in his heart) Allah’s pleasure associated with one praying in congregation). Imam Ghazali mentioned that we let ourselves (our nafs) off the hook when it (our nafs) is our biggest enemy and is more likely to rebel against our own selves (Ihya’ul ulum al-din, 4/381). About ensuring that we bring Taqwa in our actions, Abu Dhar reported that the Messenger of Allah, said: “Fear Allah wherever you may be; follow up an evil deed with a good one which will wipe (the former) out, and behave good-naturedly towards people” [Al-Tirmidhi].
Condition yourself to inculcate Taqwa: We have to condition ourselves to fear Him by observing and reflecting more about our existence, our vulnerability as humans in this ocean in which we are journeying, and about the end that each one of us will meet soon. We should also become avid learners about what pleases Allah and what displeases Him and take that seriously. This observation and learning will enable us to learn new truths that can help us condition our states and hearts to inculcate the required Taqwa in our hearts. (4)(Oh Allah! Beautify us by keeping us in a state of well being and Good Healthy).
The final messenger of ALLAH, Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) mounted the pulpit, then wept and said, "Ask Allah (swt) for forgiveness and health, for after being granted certainty, one is given nothing better than health. "Health is indeed a favour that we take for granted. We should express gratitude to ALLAH for bestowing us with health, and we should try are up most to look after it. ALLAH has entrusted us with our bodies for a predestined period of time. He will hold us to account on how we looked after and utilised our bodies and good health. "No one will be allowed to move from his position on the Day of Judgement until he has been asked how he spent his life, how he used his knowledge, how he earnt and spent his money and in what pursuits he used his health"
The preservation of this blessing can only be achieved through taking good care of one’s health and taking every measure to maintain and enhance it. With this in mind every Muslim should make sure they undertake all necessary actions which are conducive to the preservation of good health. Healthy living is part and parcel of Islam, introduced with the inception of Islam more than 14 centuries ago. Furthermore, the Quran and the Sunnah outline the teachings that show every Muslim how to protect his health and live life in a state of purity. Numerous examples in Islam instruct its followers to live a healthy life, a selection are summarised below. Any health benefits derived from prayer or any other worship (fasting) are secondary in importance. The Salah or Islamic prayer comprises both physical movement and mental concentration. Performed five times a day at specific times of the day, the obligatory prayers provide a good means for the circulation of blood, breathing and general suppleness of joints. Though it is not physically over demanding, we know that anything done moderately and consistently is far better than sudden over-exertion at infrequent periods. Before a Muslim performs their prayers, they must perform the ablution which comprises thorough washing of the hands, mouth, nose, face, arms (up to the elbow) and the feet (up to the ankle). This ritual of self-purification when carried out five-times a day, leaves the worshiper clean, refreshed and ready to face his creator. Muslims are also required to clean themselves with water after urinating or defecating. Another act of worship which also helps to maintain good health is taking a shower, or ghusl. This is compulsory when one is in the state of ritual impurity, and is compulsory at least once a week before attending the weekly Friday prayer.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Your Brother k.ibrahim..-----("O Muslim people please make Dua for Me, That ALLAH increase My Faith(IMAN) and devotion,And grant me a Good Muslim wife, who has knowledge of Din!([email protected])
