Just a little bit different!

People see you different
They judge and make an inference
A physical deform – a change from the norm
And they created such a storm

Physical disability is just a surface
The Heart is the place
To differentiate the good, evil and bad!
BUT we fail to see beyond the physical state – and this is sad!

Born unique
This they critique
Lest they forget, Allah’s design in creation
Is neither a diversion nor separation!

As human, we are not perfect
What can we extract?
If another human is born with disability
This is a test from Allah the All-Mighty

They too are our brothers and sisters
Belittling them is a grave matter*
Just a little bit different
To appreciate Allah’s diligent

Our attitude to them should be casual
This is not unusual
Treat them as we wanted to be treated**
Smile, talk, extend the same when we greeted

They are also human like us
Allah gives the greatest task
To HIS servant a test is a must***
– Those who passed to heaven with the sweetest of musk!

So next time when we met a person with disability
Show them some dignity
Then we become Muslims of integrity
When we treated all the same – with a degree of humanity

Oh Allah! If my actions to them show my intolerance
This is all due to my negligence and ignorance
Change my lackadaisical attitude
I pray to you in gratitude

Every person born is impartial.
Who are we to judge and label?
Just remember an advice so crucial
Treat them with dignity – they are so special!

* Surah Hujurat 49: 11
O you who believe! let not (one) people laugh at (another) people perchance they may be better than they, nor let women (laugh) at (other) women, perchance they may be better than they; and do not find fault with your own people nor call one another by nicknames; evil is a bad name after faith, and whoever does not turn, these it is that are the unjust.

** Abu al-Muntafiq reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, teach me what will save me from the punishment of Allah and admit me into Paradise.” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the prescribed prayers, and give the obligatory charity.” And I think the Prophet said, “Fast the month of Ramadan, and treat people the way you would love to be treated, and do not treat them the way you would hate to be treated.”
