Personal Jihad
In the trenches
Everyday of my life
Dodging invisible bullets
With
Much struggle and strife
It’s a war against greed and vain desires
The smoke of temptation so thick
Enough to make you lose focus – hey, what about the hell fires?
Blinded, oh, which road to pick?
Navigating through this strange terrain
The desire to camouflage and blend in becomes an instinctive pain
Business suits and highlighted manes
Cleavages and midriffs on display
Strip off the hijab, oh, what price to pay?
But
It’s a foolish solider that gives up his armour!
Don’t get all worked up – you think clearer when you’re calmer!
Watching loved ones falling left, right and centre
Enough to make you want to throw your arms up and surrender!
But sink into sordid retreat?
In the Akhira - a humiliating defeat?
No? no… NO!
The enemy surrounds
From the front and behind
All around
And
Even within!
But
For the Fear of the Almighty
Fight? Fight… FIGHT!
And
Never give in!
FIGHT
To the last!
For this, too, must pass!
