Sermon Sense
Tall tales of dubious miracles
are simply incredulous.
Exaggerating fealty or mocking reality
is plain absurdity.
Rambling exhortations, literal interpretations
lead to thoughtless actions, frustrations.
Belief with certainty is brittle with rigidity
and crumbles with adversity.
For those of understanding, it is indeed challenging
to deviate from conforming.
Give us glad tidings and maybe some warnings.
Don’t just harp on all our shortcomings.
A community in distress doesn’t need more stress
Use soothing words to calm unrest.
Tax us not beyond our capabilities
You’ll have no one left with sensibilities.
