Two Love Stories
Act 1: Opening Scene
Story 1:
Slap on the war paint,
Prowl the hunting grounds,
Constant restlessness,
Dissatisfaction while doing the rounds,
An unexplained emptiness,
Story 2:
Serenity,
Self-confidence,
Total trust in the Almighty,
Cool reassurance,
Supplication and submission,
Belief in destiny,
Lonely but not alone,
Act 2: The Encounter
Story 1:
Eyes meet and rove,
Noting every curve, muscle,
Every move,
Story 2:
Catch the refreshing echo
Of your presence,
Through your deeds
And actions,
Act 3: The Meeting
Story 1:
Open circling,
Wild mating dance,
Verbal sparring,
Dazzling, daring
Story 2:
Lowered gazes,
Interested questions,
Thoughtful pauses,
And
Meaningful responses
Act 4: The Union
Story 1:
Heady excitement,
Senses overpowered
By unquenchable lust,
No time really
To build up the trust,
Forget about finding common ground
Once hearts are all a-pound,
Story 2:
Reflecting and weighting,
Consulting and praying,
Beautiful anticipation for an answer from above
For glad tidings of a true love
Act 5: Life There After
Story 1:
The honeymoon’s over,
Reality comes down with a crash,
Rejoin the rat-race to make some big cash,
Rigid family planning,
Children an ego-reflection,
Possessions for personal satisfaction,
Absentee parenting,
Roles undefined,
Story 2:
Beautiful discovery,
Heavenly bliss in the realm of halaal,
Children an ammant from Allah
Means to increase the Ummah,
No need to worry
Every child brings their rozi,
Roles clearly defined,
Act 6: Closing Scene
Story 1:
Unfulfilled expectations,
Strangers trapped
By fleeting moments of passion,
No meeting of minds
Now that bodies have waned,
Separations common upon empty nest,
No peace, no rest
Regret-filled lonely last years,
Many self-pitying tears,
Story 2:
Respectful Companions,
Comfortable Partners in Prayer,
Unspoken understanding,
Gracefully growing old,
Peacefully journeying
Onwards
Towards a higher goal
Act 7: Closing Remarks
Every love story has its highs and lows
Every player takes their bows
So the audience thus decides
In which story true happiness resides
Curtains!
